The Song You’ll Hear in Every Bar
After Bosnia qualified for the 2026 World Cup, one song became the national celebration anthem.
“I am from Bosnia, take me to America”
A song by Dubioza Kolektiv (a Bosnian rock/reggae band from Zenica) called “USA.” It was written years ago but exploded again for 2026.
After Bosnia beat Italy, crowds gathered in front of the Eternal Flame in Sarajevo singing this. The video went viral worldwide. If you learn one song, learn this line. It’s now a permanent part of Bosnian football fan culture.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use these phrases for any Bosnian football match?
Most of them, yes. Phrases like Šutiraj! (Shoot!), Dodaj! (Pass it!), and Gol! (Goal!) work for any football game anywhere. But chants like Hajmo Bosno!, Zmajevi!, and Ko ne skače, mrzi Bosnu! are specifically for Bosnia matches.
Are these phrases used in everyday Bosnian conversation?
Some are, some aren’t. Samo jako! (Keep going strong!) is common in daily life. Daj gol! is really only used during sports. The chants are almost exclusively for stadiums and watch parties.
Is any of this offensive?
The phrases and chants in this post are clean and unifying. However, real Bosnian football fan culture does have darker elements. This post focuses only on positive, family-friendly language that celebrates the team.
How do I say “Go Bosnia” in Bosnian?
The most direct way is Hajmo Bosno! (Let’s go Bosnia!). You can also say Naprijed Bosno! (Forward Bosnia!) or simply BiH! (pronounced Beh-ee-hah), which is the country’s abbreviation.
Do Bosnian fans sing in English?
Rarely. The only English you might hear is during the song “I Am from Bosnia, Take Me to America” (which is mostly Bosnian except the word “America”). Everything else is pure Bosnian.
Will Bosnian fans appreciate it if I use these phrases?
Absolutely. Bosnians are famously welcoming to anyone who shows interest in their language and culture. Shout Hajmo Bosno! at a watch party or in a Sarajevo kafana, and you’ll get smiles and high-fives.
When is the 2026 World Cup?
The tournament runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026. It is co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
