So you want to learn Bosnian online in 2026.

The good news? You have more quality options today than ever before. However, you still won’t find Bosnian on Duolingo or most big language apps.

After teaching Bosnian for years, I’ve tested, used, and recommended dozens of resources.

Best YouTube Channels for Learning Bosnian

YouTube is essential for Bosnian because you need to hear the language. Pronunciation, rhythm, and stress patterns don’t come from books.

How to Speak Bosnian

This channel focuses on practical, everyday Bosnian. You won’t find stiff, textbook phrases here.

Each video breaks down words slowly, then repeats at natural speed. This makes a huge difference for your pronunciation.

Unofortunately, the channel is old and there hasn’t been any updates or new videos for years. But their old videos remain useful. So, if you want to learn Bosnian online, this channel is a good place to start.

FC LangMedia

Where the first channel gives you conversation, FC LangMedia gives you grammar. The Bosnian playlist covers tenses, cases, question words, and sentence structure in short 5-10 minute videos.

The explanations are clear and never overwhelming. Watch one video during your coffee break and take notes.

Best Vocabulary App: Drops

Drops is a visual vocabulary app. Each word comes with an illustration, and you learn through quick swiping and matching games.

The free version gives you 5 minutes per day. That sounds short, but consistency beats intensity. Five minutes every day builds vocabulary faster than one hour once a week.

The Bosnian course covers numbers, colors, family, food, and travel words. Pronunciation is included and can be slowed down.

What Drops won’t teach you: Grammar, sentence structure, or conversation. Use it for vocabulary only.

Summer Conversational Bosnian Language Course (2026)

Every summer, I run a small-group course focused entirely on speaking. No heavy grammar lectures.

We meet live as a group of no more than 6 students twice a week. Each session focuses on a practical situation. We listen to videos, read texts, learn how to fill in the paperwork, and talk about all these materials in the class.

The small group size means you get plenty of speaking time. Students laugh together, practice together, and leave the course speaking Bosnian. We have two groups each year: beginners (if you are A1 or A2), and intermediate (B1 or B2).

Format: Live group sessions on Google meet (max 6 students)
When: June, July and August 2026
Who this is for: Learners who understand some Bosnian but freeze when it’s time to speak

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to learn Bosnian?

It depends on your goals and how much time you can dedicate. A student who studies 30 minutes daily will reach basic conversation skills (greetings, introductions, simple questions) in about 3-4 months. Reaching the intermediate level, where you can hold longer conversations, typically takes 9-12 months. The most important thing is to stay consistent and interact with the language in as many ways as you can.

Is Bosnian the same as Croatian or Serbian?

Not exactly, but they are mutually intelligible. Bosnian uses the Latin alphabet (like Croatian) but also recognizes the Cyrillic alphabet (like Serbian). The biggest differences are in vocabulary and pronunciation. A good Bosnian resource teaches you Bosnian specifically.

Do I need to learn the cases?

Yes. Bosnian has seven grammatical cases, and you cannot form correct sentences without them. The good news is that patterns exist, and they become natural with practice. My advice is to learn them slowly, one by one.

What is the hardest part of learning Bosnian?

For English speakers, the cases are the biggest challenge. Verb aspects (perfective vs imperfective) also take time to internalize.

When does the summer conversational course start?

The summer course starts in the beginning of June. We will plan our times together. You need to enrol before the end of May, so hurry up! Spots are limited to 6 students per group.

How do I book a 1:1 lesson?
